- Welcome to our scrapbook! -
My Wife, Nicole, and I entered the 2013 Rick Steves' online scrapbook contest with our 14-day Best of Europe trip. Somehow we managed to be chosen as the 1st place participants and were awarded a seat on a 8-21 day tour or 2 seats on a 7-day city tour!
We chose the Best of Eastern Europe in 16 days!
We hope you travel with us through our tour scrapbook and check out what beautiful sites and powerful history lies within Eastern Europe! As in our other scrapbook, this first page will be a little "wordy", but stick with us!

About Us!
Our names are Mike and Nicole and we call a town just North of Dallas, Texas home. Mike is a recent UNT graduate from the College of Engineering and Nicole is an RN at an elementary school. We have two dogs, Ranger and Dora, they're both Border Collies that keep us on the move! Our first European vacation was in the Summer of 2013, we did the Rick Steves' Best of Europe in 14 days. Since then, we have been looking forward to another opportunity to visit Europe again! We like to go new places, get lost and dive into different cultures! |
Why Eastern Europe?
Why Eastern Europe? We answered this question many times after booking our trip. People were interested in just why we would want to venture over to Eastern Europe. Much of the curiosity stemmed from how Eastern Europe used to be. However, since we were just puppies when the Velvet Revolution took place and aren't old enough to remember the fall of communism, we never thought of Eastern Europe the same way as those that are a little more seasoned than we are do. After visiting the locations on our trip, we are so much more educated and knowledgeable on the history of the areas. Eastern Europe is thriving with life!
Tip! Please, do not let stigmas of the not-so-distant past of some of these locations keep you from traveling there. Go and enjoy!
The Eastern Europe itinerary is not your average first-time-to-Europe style trip. You will not see the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, the Colosseum, or ride in a Gondola through the canals of Venice on this trip. We feel that this trip is for those that maybe have seen the highlights of Europe and want to branch out a little, see a little more of what the diverse continent has to offer. This trip has a great mixture of popular places to visit [Prague, Budapest, Krakow], stunning natural beauty locations [Plitvice, Rovinj, Bled] and one location specifically that historically important [Auschwitz, in Poland]. We will dip into some of the history of the sites we are sharing to help tie together the loose ends of why we are sharing some of these places. Not all of them are commonly recognized, but offer strong ties to history!
